ʻOwai Kākou : Who is a Royalist?
Royalist, was a term popular in late 19th century Hawaiʻi. It began circling Hawaiian language newspapers during the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian crown by American insurgence. Those who overthrew Queen Liliʻuokalani, labeled themselves the rightful government, and to pledge allegiance to their government, you would consider yourself a LOYALIST: being ʻloyalʻ to what they enforced as the ʻrightful governmentʻ of Hawaiʻi. Kanaka in return, labeled themselves as ROYALIST: LOYAL TO THE ROYAL CROWN OF HAWAIʻI. When you rep ROYALIST HAWAIʻI swag, youʻre representing the fact that the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi still exists.
